Based on official documentation. This is not a hands-on performance or accuracy comparison.
Your existing environment is the first filter
GhidrAssist is associated with Ghidra; Gepetto is associated with IDA. That makes this comparison primarily about the surrounding workflow, rather than two interchangeable standalone products. If you already have a productive analysis environment, the cost of switching it may be larger than the difference between plugin interfaces.
This page compares the projects' documentation. No side-by-side installation or accuracy test has been completed by ReverseAI.
Questions to settle before installing
Read the current official README for the exact release you intend to use. Confirm the host application's version, the extension's installation method, its language/runtime requirements and the model providers it supports. Save those details with your investigation notes.
“Works with Ghidra” or “works with IDA” is not enough detail to establish compatibility with every version or decompiler configuration.
Compare the dependency boundaries
On a small screen, scroll the table to compare →| Dimension | GhidrAssist | Gepetto |
|---|---|---|
| Analysis environment | Ghidra | IDA |
| Product shape | Extension inside an analysis workflow | Plugin inside an analysis workflow |
| What to check first | Host/extension version compatibility | Host/decompiler/Python compatibility |
| Model data flow | Determined by configured endpoint and settings | Determined by configured provider and settings |
| Cost boundaries | Extension, model usage and infrastructure | Plugin, IDA/decompiler licensing and model usage |
| Independent test status | Not tested here | Not tested here |
Keep provider choice separate from plugin choice
A locally installed plugin can still send code to a remote model. Before choosing a workflow, identify which context is included in a request and where the response is generated. Avoid reducing this to a single “local” label.
When a provider setting is unclear, record it as unknown. That is more useful than assuming the most convenient answer.
Evaluate on one checkable question
Use a small function whose behavior you understand. Ask each configured workflow the same question, preserve the response, and inspect the program evidence independently. Record errors and omissions as carefully as successful explanations. Keep the host application's decompilation quality separate from the model's interpretation.
Your first evaluation should establish a repeatable setup and a checkable result. It does not need a large binary or an elaborate score.
Next steps
Read the dependency notes and official links in the GhidrAssist profile or the Gepetto profile. Use your first investigation to scope the task, then verify the answer before trusting it.
